Jerez

Just arrived in the home of Sherry and on our first explore we found a great little bar called Tabanco Plateros which served great sherry and really nice cold tapas.

Anchovies with Artichoke, Mojama (Dry cured Tuna) and Matured Sheep Cheese

Black Pudding, Red Peppers stuffed with Soft Cheese with Pedro Jimenez, Butifarra (Fatty White Sausage with herbs)

Melva (Frigate Tuna with Potatoes and Peppers)

All had with lots of Fino, Amontillado and Pedro Ximinez Sherry

Our first Bodega visit was the one that was nearest to where we were staying.

Tio Pepe is the biggest selling sherry in the world and the Bodega is huge but the main reason we went there was for this-
I love Keith Floyd

There were quite a few of these including Bobby Charlton, Orson Welles, Stephen Spielberg and, of course, Michael Portillo.

There is one for Jesus too
The Christ Barrel

We went back to Tabanco Plateros that evening because we enjoyed it so much the night before and had pretty much the same food with the addition of this-

Queso Ahumado (Smoked Cheese with ham)

The next Bodega was Sandeman

Fino, Amontillado and Sweet Oloroso

For lunch we went to Casa Gabriela

Revueltos Solea (Scrambled Eggs with Prawns and Ham)

Carrillada de Oloroso (Cow Cheeks in Sherry)

The next day we had a day trip to nearby town Sanlucar de Barrameda which is the home of Manzanilla sherry (Fino Sherry but slightly saltier because its made by the coast).

We tried to visit some Bodegas but found it quite difficult to find one doing a tour so we just had a glass of Manzanilla at Bodega La Cigarrera which came with some amazing Tortilla de Camerones (Crunchy prawn pancakes).

For lunch we went to Bar La Jaula

Pulpo a la Gallega (Octopus Galician Style)

Melva and Pulpo

Grouper with Mixed Peppers

We then went down by the beach and had Rebujitos which is a mix of Fino and 7-UP, really refreshing
It was pretty windy

Back to Jerez, we visited the towns oldest Bodega- Bodega Terry

The only Bodega with self service when tasting. Thats Harveys Bristol Cream and Terrys Brandy. We had a couple.

We went for lunch at Sabores
Salmorejo (Chilled Soup similar to Gazpacho topped with Ham)

Pulpo

Cochinillo confitado en AOVE con cebollitas confitadas y vinagreta de tomillo
(Suckling pig confit with caramelised spring onion and thyme vinaigrette)

The Suckling Pig was really good, can't wait to have a whole one.

For dinner we just had some basics but I did manage to finally try some Kidneys in Sherry

Yummy!

Off to Cadiz.
