Zaragoza

During Fiestas del Pilar there's an abundance of food stalls along the river. Serving traditional stews, chistorra, roast chestnuts and sweet wines.

Potato cakes get Nadims approval. Cheers!

After visiting La Aljaferia we ate at Casa Emilio. Not situated in the prettiest part of town - it looks a bit rough n' ready from the outside but their Menu del Dia was fantastic and superb value for money. Three courses, bread and wine for 10€. Specialising in Aragonese cuisine, it has a real home-cooked feel and full of locals.

Bean stew.

Deep fried Bacalao.

Pork Chops with Vegetable Stew.

Venison Stew. Wow.

Selection of puddings.

At Taberna La Piedra - we started with their signature potatoes and tangy blue cheese sauce. They're so popular they've opened a bar that serves only these.

The steak is served raw with a hot stone so you can cook to your liking.

It was a bit on the pricey side - but there was a helluva lotta meat!

El Angel del Pincho is a tiny, cute Argentine/Japanese fusion bar tucked down a side street in Zaragoza. They specialise in tempura and empanadas.

We sat at the bar with a glass of wine and tried the vegetable tempura and flavoursome beef empanadas.

Taberna La Piedra's little sister, across town is La Piedrita. You collect your super-salty patatas in an ominous brown paper bag (to eat in or take away) along with plastic wine glass.

Simple, but effective.
